RSPB Big Garden BirdwatchThis weekend I took part in the RSPB's Big Garden Birdwatch. The RSPB has been running this citizen science event for several years, and always during the last weekend in January. It's simple, just take an hour over the weekend to watch the birds in your garden, counting the numbers of each species that lands at one time. For example, if you have 1 Blue Tit but then 10 minutes later you have 3, then you count the number of Blue Tits as 3. If later you see 4 at one time then you would change it to 4. It's a great way to get people involved in birdwatching AND it provides valuable data on the state of our nation's birds. My final tally was 17 species, with a total of 57 birds.
